Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable Tax Attorney to join our client’s legal team. The successful candidate will represent clients in court cases regarding tax-related legal disputes, negotiate tax-related compromises with the IRS, and provide guidance on structuring the purchase and sale of businesses. This role requires a deep understanding of tax law, exceptional negotiation skills, and the ability to monitor legislative developments to advise clients on the potential impact on their business and personal finances.
Key Responsibilities:
- Court Representation:
- Represent clients in court for tax-related legal disputes.
- Litigate tax disputes in court, with the ability to handle proceedings over the phone when necessary.
- Negotiation:
- Negotiate tax-related compromises with the IRS on behalf of clients.
- Structure and negotiate the documentation of business entities.
- Business Structuring:
- Provide guidance on structuring the purchase and sale of businesses by examining sellers’ debts, liabilities, finances, and assets.
- Legislative Monitoring and Advising:
- Monitor legislative developments and advise clients on the potential impact of pending legislation on their business and personal finances.
- Legal Research:
- Conduct thorough legal research using computer databases.
- Stay current with extensive reading on tax law changes.
- Documentation:
- Write and file motions and court briefs.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the state bar and in good standing.
- Strong background in tax law with proven experience in tax litigation and negotiation.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to handle multiple clients and cases simultaneously.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using legal research databases and technology.
Preferred Skills:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or a degree in accounting is a plus.
- Experience in structuring and negotiating business transactions.
- Familiarity with the latest tax legislation and regulations.
- LLM in Taxation.
