Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable Tax Attorney to join our client’s legal team. The successful candidate will represent clients in court cases regarding tax-related legal disputes, negotiate tax-related compromises with the IRS, and provide guidance on structuring the purchase and sale of businesses. This role requires a deep understanding of tax law, exceptional negotiation skills, and the ability to monitor legislative developments to advise clients on the potential impact on their business and personal finances.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Court Representation:
    • Represent clients in court for tax-related legal disputes.
    • Litigate tax disputes in court, with the ability to handle proceedings over the phone when necessary.
  2. Negotiation:
    • Negotiate tax-related compromises with the IRS on behalf of clients.
    • Structure and negotiate the documentation of business entities.
  3. Business Structuring:
    • Provide guidance on structuring the purchase and sale of businesses by examining sellers’ debts, liabilities, finances, and assets.
  4. Legislative Monitoring and Advising:
    • Monitor legislative developments and advise clients on the potential impact of pending legislation on their business and personal finances.
  5. Legal Research:
    • Conduct thorough legal research using computer databases.
    • Stay current with extensive reading on tax law changes.
  6. Documentation:
    • Write and file motions and court briefs.

Qualifications:

  1. Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  2. Admission to the state bar and in good standing.
  3. Strong background in tax law with proven experience in tax litigation and negotiation.
  4. Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  5. Ability to handle multiple clients and cases simultaneously.
  6. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Proficiency in using legal research databases and technology.

Preferred Skills:

  1. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or a degree in accounting is a plus.
  2. Experience in structuring and negotiating business transactions.
  3. Familiarity with the latest tax legislation and regulations.
  4. LLM in Taxation.
