About the Role
*** This is an onsite position with five days per week (M-F) in office required at our Washington, DC newsroom. ***
Salary Range: $79,100 – $86,000/annually
MLex is seeking an experienced reporter in Washington DC to cover the regulatory issues raised by the emergence of large language models and other tools referred to collectively as “artificial intelligence.”
The ideal candidate will have some experience covering Congress, the federal court system and state or federal agencies; and will have enthusiasm for partnering with other reporters. The successful applicant will have demonstrated ability to mentor junior reporters.
MLex is a highly collaborative environment, and the reporter will frequently work with reporters focused on similar topics in Brussels, São Paulo, Silicon Valley, Hong Kong and elsewhere. The successful candidate will have the ability to write in-depth stories about the implications of legislative, regulatory and judicial matters in the AI field.
Responsibilities
- Writing clear, well-organized news stories and analysis
- Locating and organizing relevant information from public documents and other sources
- Writing one-paragraph summaries identifying key information in those documents
- Creating and modifying portfolios with relevant information
- Coordinating with reporters and editors to ensure that portfolios are complete
Requirements
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or legal background
- Experience reporting and writing news, including coverage of technology regulation
- Have solid writing skills and a demonstrated ability to be proactive in shaping MLex’s coverage
- Experience guiding junior reporters
- Have the ability to provide analysis of events and documents, illuminating context and big-picture trends
- Possess a background in law, and/or experience in news or legal organizations is preferred
