POSITION: Accounting Specialist/Bookkeeper

REPORTS TO: Controller

STATUS:Full-Time, Non-Exempt

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Associate II

UNION ELIGIBLE: Yes

WORK ARRANGEMENT: Hybrid (3 days in office)

LOCATION: San Francisco, CA

SALARY RANGE:$31.90/hr-$38.46/hr

Founded in San Francisco in 1902, the LightHouse’s purpose is to promote the independence, equality and self-reliance of people who are blind or visually impaired. The LightHouse is currently in a period of growth, increasing our capacity to serve more low-vision and blind clients.

OVERVIEW:

The Accounting Specialist/Bookkeeper is a key, full-time staff position at LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired (LightHouse) in San Francisco. The Accounting Specialist/Bookkeeper reports to the Controller and has responsibility for some accounts payable, and some accounts receivable.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates or Accounting degree or equivalent preferred
  • 2 years’ bookkeeper experience preferred
  • 2 years of transactional (accounts payable, cash receipts or payroll) accounting experience preferred
  • Non-profit experience a big plus
  • Strong organization and prioritization/time management skills that ensure timely completion of assigned projects
  • Customer Service focus
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of basic computer and technology skills
  • Proficient or working knowledge with Calendaring, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, as well other Software Applications including but not limited to QuickBooks, Vena Solutions, Business Central, Financial Edge and Mar-Kov.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accounts Payable
    • Process vendor invoices including authorization entry, payments, credit memos and voids.
    • Works with other departments in support of the accounts payable function.
    • Classifies, verify amounts, confirms accounts, and records payables.
    • Ensures accurate and appropriate documentation and authorizations.
    • Maintain and manage vendor records and files.
    • Responsible for maintaining 1099 records, documentation, filing and follow up if required.
    • Reconcile vendor statements, following up with calls for invoices if necessary.
  • Accounts Receivable
    • Process accounts receivable including entry, sending and payment fulfillment.
    • Works with other departments in support of the accounts receivable function.
    • Maintain and manage customer records and files.
    • Review Aging, following up with calls for payments if necessary.
    • Prepares Customer reconciliations.

  • Cross-trains and backs up Cash Receipts
  • Follows Financial Policies and Procedures
  • Assists CFO and Controller with administrative functions.
  • Support and Assist the Finance Team during audits.
  • Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit at a desk and perform computer-intensive work for extended periods daily.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to carry and transport up to 20lbs regularly.
  • Travel independently to Lighthouse location(s) as needed.
