Job Description

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

 

RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS: None

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Employee Relations and Training and other Human Resources staff to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Assist and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and more complex investigations under the direction of the Vice President of Employee Relations and Training.
  • Remains current and informed in the field of HR to share knowledge and insights regarding Employee Relations policies and procedures.
  • Assist with researching and interpreting employment laws to help develop and aid in the implementation of agency policies.
  • Conducting interactive processes with employees to determine ADA compliance and reasonable accommodations.
  • Assist with leaves of absence requests, including FMLA, as needed.
  • Assist with employee separation process.
  • Assesses training and development needs through communication with department directors and managers.
  • Creates and/or acquires training materials on a wide array of compliance and professional development topics, including, but not limited to, harassment and discrimination, DEIA, employment law, ADA, performance reviews, crucial conversations, discipline, terminations, ethics, and personnel policies and regulations.
  • Presents onboarding and training / development programs using various forms and formats including group discussion, lecture, simulations, and videos via in-person and remote sessions.
  • Manages LMS, maintains training records, and generates relevant reports.
  • Deliver support in a professional and efficient manner, providing prompt assistance while managing expectations to achieve quality outcomes.
  • Maintain knowledge of changed, current, and pending state and federal laws and trends in the areas of investigations, Office of Civil Rights, equal employment opportunity, discrimination, harassment, and other related topics.
  • Assists team in creating and fostering engagement programs and training process.
  • Provide oversight for The Chicago Lighthouse’s unemployment claim process, including which claims to contest and representation at hearings.
  • Support compliance and proper application of employment practices.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned related to meeting the challenges, expectations and mission of the Human Resources Department and The Chicago Lighthouse.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, training and development, education, instructional design, or related field and relevant experienced preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment (EEO) laws.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential data with integrity and professionalism.
  • Exhibits a customer service focused attitude and approach.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills. Adaptable and flexible; able to navigate competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proven record of teaching, facilitation, and presentation capabilities.
  • Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 and related program software.
  • Familiarity with LMS platforms.
  • Demonstrates openness and respect for cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and coworkers.

 

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer/laptop.
  • Prolonged periods of concentration.
