DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International’s well established Planning Practice in San Diego is seeking a Senior Planning Manager to secure and execute land planning and entitlement projects.

The Senior Planning Manager will join a collaboration of experienced planners, engineers, architects, and project managers dedicated to having a positive impact through effective planning. The ideal candidate will be driven, committed to excellence, and demonstrate a desire to make a difference in the communities we serve. The Senior Planning Manager’s primary responsibilities include:

  • Identifying new private and public land planning, design, and entitlement opportunities
  • Positioning and securing new planning and entitlement clients and contracts, primarily in San Diego County. 
  • Coordinating and processing applications for entitlements including, but not limited to, site plans, density bonus, zone change, conditional use permit, subdivision maps, site plan review, grading plans, coastal development permits, and general plan amendments.
  • Managing entitlement projects from initial due diligence to issuance of permits 
  • Preparing due diligence memos 
  • Mentoring junior staff, and supporting marketing and business development efforts

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Four-year degree in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or related discipline
  • 10 years of municipal/local/state government planning related experience that demonstrate a successive increase in experience and responsibilities 
  • 5 years of active experience in entitlement applications, permit processing, due diligence and related activities
  • Knowledge of state planning and zoning laws, including CEQA
  • Strong network of developer and agency contacts, with focus in San Diego County
  • Robust involvement in professional organizations, such as APA, BIA, and ULI
  • AICP or other related professional certification or licensure
  • Knowledge of one or more planning disciplines, such as urban planning/design, policy planning, economic development, active transportation planning, transportation planning
  • Ability to conduct research and prepare statistical planning reports on land use, physical, social & economic possibilities, and constraints.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for preparing and presenting planning reports and projects
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to accommodate moderate travel

COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $135,000-$162,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
